A new sustainability rating scheme has been developed by BRE Global. The scheme is two years in the making, and it aims to assess building projects based on factors that are within the building team’s control and that are relevant to each individual project. It also aims help teams to work together to meet industry requirements.
The scheme offers a flexible approach to certification, taking into consideration the limitations and opportunities for improving existing buildings. Projects can be assessed against any combination of the following, depending on which are relevant to the refurbishment or fit-out in question:
- Building fabric and structure
- Core services (e.g. centralised M&E plant)
- Local services
- Interior design
The scheme gives recognition to improvements to the poorest performing buildings, as well as buildings already performing well. New criteria also aims to make existing buildings fit for the future, by tackling issues such as climate change resilience and functional adaptability.
Projects assessed under the scheme can receive a BREEAM rating from Pass to Outstanding.
At WPS we offer pre-refurbishment audits, which are a necessity should WAS credits be required to contribute to the overall rating. These audits aim to identify opportunities for reclamation, reuse and recycling, to help you discover the maximum material recovery for your refurbishment project. We are on the preferred supplier list for ISG for this service.
