At WPS we are excited to have submitted our entry for Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch!
Open to UK companies in the sustainable built environment market, The Big Innovation Pitch is running in association with M&S to find the next big sustainable product. M&S are aiming to discover the latest innovations in design, construction and energy to create more sustainable properties under their Plan A strategy. They aim to source responsibly, reduce waste and help communities in their bid to become the world’s most sustainable major retailer.
Our application for the pitch is based on our upcoming waste research project DRIM (Deconstruction and Recovery Information Modelling), which we are undertaking in partnership with the University of the West of England, Coventry University and Sustainable Direction Ltd. The project involves developing a state of the art software tool to forecast which materials can be reused or recycled after the demolition of a building, and their value.
During the competition, 20 entrants will be invited to have their work displayed at Ecobuild, while twelve will be shortlisted to proceed to the second stage and pitch their product to the M&S judging panel. Five entrants will go through to the final stage and present their products to the industry in a conference session hosted by Rachel Riley. The winner will be announced at the show, which is being held at Excel London on 8th – 10th March. As well as the conference there will also be talks and an exhibition.
The 2015 winners of the Big Innovation Pitch were Endotherm, who pitched to improve M&S' heating efficiency and reduce gas consumption to save 15% on heating bills.
You can visit Ecobuild and watch the finalists present their products to the judges by registering online. And who knows – you could be watching us present our DRIM project!
